Fibre-optic nest, Ukraine 2025 36 x 41cm Watercolour by Lillias August
Next year I will be touring the watercolours that I have painted as part of the project with Douglas G.D. Russell from the Natural History Museum (for more information link). The project has involved painting historic nests that contain manmade materials. The tour will have an accompanying publication and a limited edition print of the painting, above. sold in aid of a Ukrainian charity.
I have decided to launch the limited edition print now. The sooner that I can launch this the sooner I can donate to the charity.
The nest was made in 2025 using fibre-optic cable from the drones used in the Russia-Ukraine war. The drones cause untold damage and the fibre optic-cable used to guide them litters the fields causing long term harm to the environment. The nest was featured in a moving article in the Sunday Times this April that told the story of the soldier who found it.
This limited edition of 100 signed and numbered prints will raise money for Superhumans, a Ukrainian charity that provides a nationwide network of war trauma centres specialising in prosthetics, reconstructive surgery, rehabilitation, and psychological support for adults and children affected by war since 2022.
I very much hope that you will be interested in buying a print and supporting this cause. The help needed needs no explanation.
The cost is £215 including p&p within the UK and 50% will go to the charity. The print will be ready before Christmas 2026. The image size is 32.5 x 37cm with an additional 75cm border all round.
If you are interested in buying a print, please can you contact me through my contact page
Thank you for your kind support for those in need, especially at this time of year.
Lillias
I wanted to bring out the contrast between the delicacy of the nest where, wound round and round, it creates the perfect circle, compared to the way it springs out under its own steam and, reflecting the conflict, seems out of control. Lillias August RI
